Lolcats IRL
While lolcats began and became popular in virtual spaces, there have recently been examples of lolcats extending into non-virtual spaces.
- The website icanhascheezburger.com has released a hard-copy book, I Can Has Cheezburger?: A LOLcat Colleckshun, which features a number of lolcat classics and originals. The book is square as opposed to rectangular, and each lolcat is given its own page, without any additional information. In this way, the book mirrors the lolcat aesthetic as it is enacted online.
- San Francisco is now home to what may be the world’s largest IRL lolcat, thanks to artist Josh Zubkoff.
- Marianne Goldin organized the LOL Arts show in collaboration with Ben Huh (CEO of icanhascheezburger.com). Featuring artists commissioned through Huh’s website, the show was highly successful, raising Lolcat awareness as well as funds for Partners in Reading.
